Your Anderson Estates Expert

Alexander Victor Anderson built this imposing six-storey red brick structure in 1912-1913. The Quebec businessman moved here in 1882 and sold implements and buggies on Atlantic Avenue (now 9th Ave S.W.).

The Provincial Historic Resources Foundation and the Alberta Historic Sites Service have worked with Victor Mah and architect Gerald Forseth on the restoration work that will keep the imported Italian marble stairway heavy brass rails and the 1928 Otis brass birdcage elevator . The first automatic elevator in Calgary's history and according to our information, this is the only restored elevator in such good working condition in the country! Built around the same time, this unit is very similar to the Palliser hotel in exterior design. The Anderson apartments were designed in the Baroque style with classical features by architect Roscoe B. Whitten and built by Alexander Victor Anderson.

The building was originally intended to be opened as a bachelor's hotel, close to the booming new area of Mount Royal where Canadian Pacific Railway employees were building their mansions.

It was instead opened as rental suites where well-known tenants such as A.W. Dingman (of Turner Valley fame), C.F. Jamieson (lawyer and columnist) and Alderman J.C. Linton all spent time. Downstairs, the large ballroom was converted into a dining room for tenants and their guests.

For the past 23 years it's been the property of Victor Mah, who bought it from Anderson's descendants.

From the oak mouldings, deep base boards to the lobby area, heavy brass railings with cast iron rails or imported Italian marble stairs, the apartments all have natural light thanks to the H-shaped floor plan.

Ten foot ceilings adorn all suites, original maple floors, granite counter tops, maple or oak cabinets, re-porcelained claw-footed tubs. new double glazed windows and a new hot water system.

These are some of the highlights and attention to detail in these 66 suites.
